Diapers, diapers, and oh, more diapers! The life of a parent isn’t always glamorous, but it’s something that we all have to go through for our babies. I am a proud mother of three, so I can assure you, I’ve have changed quite a few diapers in my day (more than my husband has, but he’ll never tell you!). Because I have changed so many diapers, I have a quite a bit of knowledge on the absolute best ones that you need, and the absolute worst ones that you need to stay away from! Believe it or not, my number one favorite diaper to use is the oh-so controversial cloth diaper.
Believe me when I say I have used just about every diaper on the market, but I would make the argument that cloth diapers are the absolute best! I know a lot of mothers aren’t a fans of cloth diapers because they believe that they aren’t as absorbent as disposable diapers, which can lead to rash or infection for your baby. But actually, that’s quite the opposite!
Daily Dangers You’re Exposing Your Baby To With Diapers
In all honesty, I’ve used cloth diapers instead of disposable on all of my babies and never once has it resulted in rash, infection, or any discomfort. And what a lot of mothers may not realize is that disposable diapers have harsh chemicals in their material that can really upset your babies skin. I remember, on my first child (before I was an advocate for cloth diapers), I was only ever using disposable ones for the first 6 months of our babies life, and I could never figure out why my sweetheart was always getting rashes and crying (what it felt like was 24/7). I thought it was just from the feces and urine build-up, but my doctor told me otherwise. It was clinically recommended that I make the switch to cloth diapers, as they were much gentler, and her suggestion made a huge difference on my baby’s bottom!
Another argument I see women make quite a bit about why cloth diapers are bad is that they take too much time and energy to clean, and it is so much easier to throw away a disposable one and get another (…girl, seriously?). Don’t you have to do a zillion loads washing your babies clothes anyway? Why not put an extra load on for diapers? Is there any way you can avoid washing your babies clothes so often anyway? I think not. I don’t see how this argument seems true.
What a lot of us don’t take into consideration is how much more money we will be spending on disposable diapers, rather than reusing a non-disposable diaper! There was a time I was spending thousands on diapers alone over the course of a year, and by making the easy switch to cloth diapers, I was saving nearly $1000 extra annually (Click Here for more cheap baby products that will save your life). We underestimate how much of an impact constantly buying disposable diapers has until we look at all our bills!
Ladies, switching to cloth was the best decision I have ever made! Seriously.
Okay, so what if you want to make the switch or maybe give it a chance (without commitment), which cloth diaper brands should you look at? You should start with these — as they are my absolute favorites, and there is one included that is the best cheap cloth diaper that I have been using for years!
Best Cloth Diapers
1 ♥ GroVia O.N.E – Is The O.N.E For Me!
Priced at only $22.95, GroVia cloth diaper has been a LIFESAVER to me and my baby! My first born has always been a little pain in the behind and has always woken we up in the middle of the night with a soaked diaper with the mess all over her legs. This obviously became a frustration to me because I feared she would develop a painful rash overnight if I did not change her quick enough. And no matter how many diapers I used, I could never find one to fit her properly so that urine wouldn’t make her legs uncomfortable. Low and behold, I came across GroVia on an online forum, and let me tell you, I was not disappointed!
This cloth diaper has offered an incredible amount of protection for my little bean, and has saved her sensitive skin from any further rashes! There is a very carefully manufactured area in this diapers material that catches, holds, and locks in any pee from when she is sleep so she can safely move around without any spills on herself! It is truly an ‘all-in-one cloth diaper’ compared to all others!
This has been a huge reliever for both myself and my baby! This is the very first diaper I would recommend to any mother trying cloth for the first time!
2 ♥ Anmababy – A Heavy-Soakers Dream!
Costing under $20 for a pack of 4, Anmababy are another one of my top favorite cloth diapers for many reasons! Anmababy, very much like the GoVia diapers, are ideal for heavy-soaker babies! These diapers can hold everything in without fear of leaking! They are also very snug, so on top of not having to worry about leakage, you also don’t have to worry about your baby wiggling out of it or having the diaper too loose, which can obviously result in a very messy clean-up!
Your little one could get up and do the Macarena followed by a series of breakdances and would still be leak free! These diapers are also one of the more organic cloth diapers on the market, which is a huge plus for me! I have used these on my second daughter as her main diaper until she grew out of needing them, and she did not have one incident of infection or rash during that period! I can honestly say this is the most secure diaper that I have come by!
3 ♥ BumGenius – A Diaper Vacay!
Costing only $21.50, BumGenius diapers have been a true blessing for all of my babies! Because they are made a little bit bulkier than other cloth diapers, it makes them ideal for overnight use or that extra padded boost for heavier soakers (which, of course, all my children had to be). I personally have always preferred to use them both night and day to ensure my little one is always leak-free and clean. I have been using bumGenius on my 3 month old baby since she was born and I have yet to replace it or find a single complaint to make!
I love how truly long-lasting and strong these diapers are, and with just a quick toss in the laundry and they look brand new! These are the absolute best cloth diapers, and are perfect for momma’s that are looking from a vacation from constant diaper duty (aren’t we all? Oy vey. Where’s the coffee?).
And if you’re looking for the best newborn cloth diaper, you may want to shift your eyes towards my final recommendation -Rumparooz Newborn Cloth Diaper!
4 ♥ Rumparooz Newborn Cloth Diaper – Hobbits, Hobbits everywhere!
Priced at only $12, the Rumparooz is the perfect diaper for newborns! I speak from experience when I say that my first born was a very tiny girl when she came out (weighing only a whoppin’ 6 pounds!), and this little diaper fit her nice and snug! It is very easy to adjust, so if you’re like my husband and have absolutely no idea how to put a diaper on, these are perfect for you (No, seriously. He had to YouTube it). On top of that, it also holds very securely, and has a very strong-layered hold for ‘oopsies’. So, if you’re struggling to find a diaper that fits a hobbit-sized newborn like I was, I would strongly suggest that you invest in Rumparooz as your babies very first!
In the end, it’s cloth diapers vs disposable, what do you think? Hopefully today’s post has given you some insight on how to answer that question and how to choose the smartest way to go that will be safe for your baby and very cost friendly to you! You will be amazed at how the impact of the correct diaper will show in your babies overall health, mood, and happiness! Make yourself and your little bean happy, and give cloth diapers a chance! You may even get a full-nights sleep if you do ( …a mother can dream can’t she?).
